SUPERGirls SHINE Foundation (SGSF) is committed to closing the gender gap for women of color in STEM. Our mission is to provide exposure plus access with tangible opportunities for girls 10-17, in underserved and underrepresented communities in STEM, innovation, and leadership initiatives.

Our SUPERGirls SHINE Programs, like our recent STEM Day event, provide education, exploration, and hands-on experience for SUPERGirls. Here are a few takeaways that #SUPERGirls shared during our “Fall Into STEM” event at The Ion Houston.

“I learned about torque and speed. I learned about building robots.”

SUPERGirls from Pasadena Independent School District, Dickinson ISD, Fort Bend ISD and Spring ISD gained exposure to engineering designing, coding, and driving robots. We want to send a big, “Thank you!” to Team 231 High Voltage, the robotics team that helped SUPERGirls discover what tools, systems solve some of the world’s problems at NASA, hospitals, Microsoft, and right at home and school. In addition to SGSF programs and events, we offer various volunteer opportunities, and real-world internships for our high school SUPERGirls and Collegiate Ambassadors. SUPERGirls build independence, confidence, and technical skills that will help them excel in their STEM worlds and personal ones too!

According to research and data, women make up only 28 % of the workforce in the STEM field. Additionally, the two most male-dominated fields are engineering and computer science. Only 21% of engineering majors and 19% of computer science majors are women. SUPERGirls SHINE, is part of closing gender gaps for women in the STEM field, so check out what we have planned!

Our goal is to to increase the number of our girls by 25% in STEM classes, degrees, and careers by the year 2025. We can further our MISSION with your help! To schedule a conversation on how, let’s CONNECT here at www.SUPERGirlsSHINE.com/CONTACT-US/
